charting my movements

October 10, 2011

I’ve already spent a good portion of October staying busy and mobile, a trend that promises to continue. This weekend I will be in New York City, attending Jacobin Magazine’s first event, a debate on #occupywallst on Friday, Oct. 14. I’m looking forward to the discussion, and hope to have some more observations of the DC occupations — yes, we have more than one! — to contribute.

Next weekend, October 22, I’m presenting a paper at the 2011 meeting of the American Studies Society in Baltimore on go-go music, informal markets, and urban space. I’m joining by two people doing excellent work on Mid-Atlantic music: Natalie Hopkinson, who has literally written the book on go-go; and Al Shipley, who is literally writing the book on Baltimore club. We go on at 10 AM. Check out the full listing of music panels at the ASA.
